MOR Local Event - Darnaway East
With our thanks to the landowner, Moray Estates, welcome to the eastern part of the iconic Darnaway Forest. The area was last used for a major event in 2023.
Darnaway will be a delight to compete on - it is varied with many broadleaf areas (mainly beach) and a varying density of conifer (some re-growth which is thick and some well spaced pine). Underfoot varies as well from reasonable clean forest floor through to short grass, long grass, heather and bilberry. There is excellent contour detail - a myriad of knolls and depressions - with some paths crossing the area.
Three courses are on offer:
- Yellow: Relatively easy, shorter course. Ideal for novice and younger orienteers.
- Orange: Moderate technical difficulty (TD). Slightly longer course than yellow.
- Light Green: More technically difficult and longer course, suitable for experienced orienteers.
The event is open to everyone, but we ask that anyone who is new to orienteering to ensure that they enter a course appropriate for their level of experience, rather than their fitness. Starts between 10:30 am and 12:00 pm, with courses closing at 1:30 pm.
Online entries until 11:59 pm on Wednesday 3 September and limited entries on the day, subject to map availability and an additional £1 fee.
