The Simon Wake Comrie Hills Relay is a 43k relay race with 1,733m of ascent, run in 4 stages (1 runner per stage) starting and finishing in Comrie village. The race follows a route up and around the hills on either side of beautiful Glen Lednock. There are Legs to suit everyone: Legs 2 and 3 cover rough mountain terrain, while Legs 1 and 4, although challenging, are closer to trail races. Leg 1 is fully marked and leg 4 is partially marked. We will also be marking a small section of Leg 3 (across the featureless moor prior to CP6) to reduce risk of lost runners.
*Vegetarian options will be available, but, unfortunately, we are unable to accommodate every allergy and dietary requirement. If you have any intolerances or allergens you may wish to bring your own post-race food.
Electronic Timing
Electronic timing using the SportIdent System. Teams will be issued with an electronic "dibber" at the start of the race. Each runner must use their dibber to check in at the end of their legs. The dibber is then handed on to the next runner as the baton. This will ensure precise times are available once your team has reached the finish line at Laggan Park and the dibber's data is downloaded. All dibbers should be returned at the end of the race. NB: There will be a £30 charge for all dibbers that are not returned.
Charity Fundraising
The race is dedicated to the memory of our friend and fellow Harrier Simon Wake who died aged 47 in October 2008 after a short battle with pancreatic cancer. Simon was a keen hill runner and passionate about youth sport. From 2025, any surplus proceeds from the race will support and promote Junior Hill Running in Scotland. This will be split equally between the Scottish Athletics Junior Hill Running initiatives (e.g. the Junior Hill Running League, taster session and training days etc) and supporting the costs of Strathearn Harriers' own active and growing junior section.
Race Legs are:
Legs 2 and 3 cover rough mountain terrain, while Legs 1 and 4 are challenging trail routes.
Rules and Safety
Please make sure you read the Race Rules and Safety Guidance before entering. By entering the race you agree to the Race Rules and Safety Guidance, and will ensure that all runners in your team are also fully aware of them before the race. The safety and well-being of runners and marshals are top priorities.
All leg 2 and 3 runners must carry safety equipment including: map, compass, whistle, waterproof jacket and trousers, hat and gloves. There will be kit checks on these legs. NB: In bad weather, this safety equipment may also be required on legs 1 and 4 too so please make sure all runners bring this kit along.
