Welcome to Nairn’s East Beach. We offer you a pleasant day orienteering near Inverness with a range of courses to suit all ages and abilities including beginners, however paths are unsuitable for pushchairs.
Terrain / Planner’s Comments: Generally level terrain so all courses have negligible climb, with a few ups and downs. Terrain is predominantly pine forest on sand dunes, some grassland and open sand dunes. The pockets of gorse are thick, so don’t bother. There is a good path network. There is a rising spring tide on the morning of event, and courses have been planned to account for this.
Maps: Maps will be pre-marked and printed on waterproof paper. Scale will be 1:7.500 (1:4000 for yellow) and with 2.5m contours.
Directions:
Parking - Parking and registration will be at “The Maggot” car park at Nairn East beach. Grid reference: NH; 889570 https://what3words.com/bonfires.fear.topped. Please note that car parking at the Maggot is pay and display. For those with young children or who don’t want the long walk to/from the start and finish, there is also limited parking at the small public car park at the eastern end of Lochloy caravan park: NH896574.
Registration and download - will be located close to the car park at the eastern end of Lochloy caravan park, requiring a walk to and from the Maggot car park.https://what3words.com/enter.unspoiled.fixated
Start and Finish: 10:45am to 12:30. The start and finish will be approximately 1.4km walk from the Maggot car park, and ~500m from the parking at the eastern end of Lochloy caravan park.
Courses close: 14:00
Toilets: There are no toilets at the registration. However there are public toilet facilities in Nairn town centre (near the Coop) and on Nairn Links. Unfortunately the public toilet facilities on Harbour Street are now permanently closed.
Course Details: Yellow to Green. All courses have a minimal amount of height gain. Note, unfortunately it is not possible to provide a white course.
