The Bowels of Fleetwith is not your average fell race. It combines breathtaking mountain scenery with a thrilling underground journey through old mine tunnels.
Starting from Honister Slate Mine, all competitors will wear a helmet and headtorch and then race 1/2 mile uphill before entering the underground mine tunnels, racing through 1km of narrow passageways, inclines, and chambers rarely seen by the public. The passage through the mines has been carefully designed by the Honister Slate Mine staff to provide a route that is not normally open to the general public but provides a safe, interesting and challenging journey.
After racing through the mine, competitors will push on to the summit of Fleetwith Pike (648m), traverse to Grey Knotts (697m), and descend back to Honister for a well-earned drink.
The race is a little over 6km with 1500m of ascent but will be one of the most memorable 5km you will have ever done!
Open to anyone aged 16 and over but U18's must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
