The Heptonstall Fell Race is a category BL race across the best of the local landscape around Heptonstall in the upper Calder Valley. The 25 kilometres of route takes in a mixture of steep-sided wooded valleys, upland pasture and pathless moorland. The race is started on the ancient cobbled main street, with a welcome and blessing from our vicar (registration is in the adjacent church). Race entry includes tea and flap jacks at the finish line - plus an authentic Thai curry back at the village pub prize giving.
You’ll be hurtling down grassy slopes, struggling across stretches of bog, scrambling up through thick heather, dodging through dense woodland and – most of all – racing over some wild open countryside. If you get the chance to look around, you’ll see for miles across some of the most beautiful and remote scenery in the South Pennines.
This is a not for profit community event - as a bunch of enthusiasts and fell running obsessives our main motivation is seeing your smiling (slightly nervous) faces on the start line. We don't take a penny for personal gain - but we do hope that we put something back into our sport and community. We donate race proceeds to the Scouts, Guides, Church, Mountain Rescue, CROWs and other local groups without who's generous support this marvellous event could not be staged
FRA rules apply – full FRA kit required - full waterproof body cover, hat, gloves, map, compass, whistle, emergency food.
Entrants must be 18 or over on the day of the event.
Start: 11:30
