Mandatory Marmite

Love them or Hate Them, Minimum Mandatory Kit Lists are here to stay.  But that's just the start...

'Gearing Up' will start with Minimum Mandatory Kit Lists, and explore the complexity of additional clothing needs and choices. We'll discuss how to 'layer up' and utilise layers effectively to stay warm and comfortable. Being comfortable enhances your chances of and success and ultimately your performance. It also keeps you safe.

From single stage race, multi-day or non-stop expedition epic, there will be plenty of time to explore all aspects of gear, skills, mindset and strategy for best practice and performance.  No hype, no sponsors, much myth busting and the sharing of decades of hard won experience and practical advice.

The day is hosted by Joe Faulkner, who has decades of experience as a participant, race founder, organiser and event safety consultant.  As a competitor, Joe has completed the Dragons Back Race, Spine Race, Cheviot Goat, dozens of 100 milers, mountain marathons, decades of fell races, triathlons as well as MTB and road events and epic multi-day Expedition Adventure Races.  Joe has also worked in the outdoor gear industrial; in retail and wholesale and as an equipment designer.

As an event professional, he founded the Great Lakeland Three Day event, has worked right across the board of all the major races in the UK, such as The Spine, LiAD, Northern Traverse, Cape Wrath. His most recent gig has been managing the Hill Safety Team on the new 13V Ultra events.   When he's not got his pro-Event hat on he is often seen quietly marshalling on a few local ultras and fell races.  Or just serving tea and soup at the finish!
