Kingdom of Fife Orienteers are staging an orienteering event at Townhill Woods, Dunfermline, Fife. This will be suitable for all abilities, from those just starting out to people who have been orienteering on many previous occasions.
It’s a lovely wood with plenty of interesting features, including the remains of a railway embankment and a number of small ponds.
Start times will be between 11am and 12 noon.
If you are thinking about which course to enter, here is some information:
Yellow: This course is ideal for families and juniors who have not done much orienteering before. Most of the checkpoints are on paths and are easy to locate. This course will be a bit over 1.5km and will take you round parts of the attractive wood.
Orange: This course is good if you have done some orienteering before or would like a bit of a challenge. Some of the checkpoints are located off the paths. You need to use a sense of direction to leave the paths at the right place to get to them. The course will be a bit over 2.3km
Green: This is the longest course, a bit over 3.7km. It will be a satisfying challenge for people who have done orienteering before. The checkpoints can be some distance from a path. Sometimes there will be big decisions to be made about which route to take to the next one.
We will send out some final details about where to meet and what to wear a couple of days before the event.
