The NIMRA ‘Come and Try’ event is aimed at runners who are new to mountain running as well as those who are already involved and interested in developing their skills.
9:30 – 12:00 (Indoor)
- Essential kit
- Mountain safety
- What it takes to compete at the top
- Basic orienteering, map & compass skills
12:00 – 13:00 (Outdoor)
- · Short mountain run including tips for up and downhill running (weather permitting)
The session will take place in Meelmore Lodge cafe and is restricted to 30 participants. Please note there will be a separate charge for parking on the day.
Please wear appropriate clothing for the outdoor run including fell shoes, jacket, waterproofs, hat and gloves. If you have your own compass and/or Mournes map (1:25000) please bring them with you. Some will also be available to borrow on the day.
After the run, we will return to Meelmore Lodge to allow everyone to feedback and recap on the day. Tea and coffee will be available but you are asked to provide your own lunch. (A café is also available on site)
