Join us on Saturday 24 August in the majestic setting of Drumlanrig, Scotland, for a cycle ride like no other – and raise vital funds to help fight poverty along the way.

The Drumlanrig Cycle Challenge has been getting people on their bikes and enjoying some of Scotland’s most spectacular scenery since 2006. The routes have changed a bit over the years but the aim remains the same – to enjoy a fantastic day of cycling on largely traffic-free roads, whilst helping people living in poverty around the world to transform their lives.

This year, the course offers two routes taking in Scotland’s breathtaking scenery, all starting and ending at the magnificent Drumlanrig castle.

  • Route 1: Tour of the Lowther Hills

This 70/51 mile route explores the valleys and passes of the Lowther Hills including the highest villages in Scotland. As this route avoids any very narrow rough roads, it is perfect for clubs or other groups who want to ride together. As well as a “big feed” at base camp over the lunch time period, there will also be feed stations en route to keep you going.

The worst parts of the back roads from Sanquhar to Drumlanrig have been repaired, so we can now include a 51 mile option taking in these virtually traffic free and highly scenic lanes. Just enter for the longer routes and choose your option on the day. Anyone leaving the Sanquhar feed after 1:30 pm will be required to take the 51 mile route.

  • Route 2: Drumlanrig Historic Route

For those wishing to have a more leisurely cycle, this 25 mile route visits the site of the very blacksmiths where Kirkpaick McMillan built the world’s first pedal propelled bicycle, and also passes the memorial to Holocaust heroic martyr Jane Haining. You will additionally see Maxwelton Chapel and will have the opportunity to look out for the sculptures of world renowned artist Andy Goldsworthy.

For this route, there will be an option to cycle along with a ride leader who will fill in on some of the historical details along the way. Or you can, of course, complete the route on your own, at your own pace.
Please note, there will be no feed stations on this route, however there will be the “big feed” back at base camp for you full of your favourite sandwiches and, of course, home baking!

The new 10 mile family ride is available this year, with more information to follow shortly.

The registration fees for this year's cycle will go towards covering the costs of the cycle.

However, since the Drumlanrig Cycle Challenge is a fundraising event we ask every cyclist to consider either:

  1. Donating a small amount on top of their entry fee or,
  2. To commit to fundraise the suggested amount of £110 per person to really impact your giving and help change lives.

These two options will be available during the registration stage. If you decide to fundraise £110 for Tearfund, a JustGiving page will be automatically created for you.

All money raised through these two options will help bring hope to people living in extreme poverty.

Under 14s cannot take part in this challenge. If you are 14-17 year olds you require parental consent to take part in the Drumlanrig Cycle Challenge, AND a parent or legal guardian accompanying you on the ride. Please check with your parent or guardian before signing up - they will have to enter you to confirm you have their consent and that they are happy to accompany you on the ride.

If you wish to register your child (aged 14-17) for this challenge, please do register yourself first and, towards the end of your application, there will be an option to "Add New Entry" which will allow you to register your child.
