The Enchanted Ultra: A Magical Adventure in the Cheviot Hills
** Registration - 6am. Race start - 8am. Ample parking. **
Are you ready for the ultimate challenge? Do you have what it takes to conquer the Cheviot Hills, one of the remotest and most rugged regions of England? Do you want to experience the magic of running through ancient forests, mystical bogs, and enchanted valleys?
If you answered yes, then you are invited to join us for the first ever Enchanted Ultra, a 50K ultra-marathon through the stunning scenery of the Cheviot Hills.
However, This is not your ordinary race. You will need to navigate using a GPS device and follow a digital route that we have carefully crafted for you. You will have 15 hours to complete the course, which will take you to some of the most iconic and challenging landmarks of the Cheviots!
But that’s not all. You will also have a chance to encounter the mysterious and elusive fairies as you pass close to 'Hen Hole', a deep chasm on the north-west side of the Cheviot. According to legend, a party of hunters were lured by the fairies’ sweet singing into the Hen Hole, and could never find their way out . Will you be able to resist their enchantment, or will you join them in their hidden realm? The choice is yours, but be warned: the fairies are not always friendly, and they may play tricks on you if you offend them.
The Enchanted Ultra is not for the faint-hearted. You might face extreme weather conditions, from high winds to sub-zero temperatures. You will encounter varied terrain, from rolling hills to steep ascents and descents, from grassy trails to rocky paths, from dense woodlands to open moorlands. Although this is a very tough course, rest assured that we take your safety seriously and medical cover will be in attendance on the day.
On completion of the Enchanted Ultra you will be rewarded with an unforgettable experience. You will witness the beauty and diversity of the Cheviot Hills, a hidden gem of the North East. You will discover the history and culture of this ancient land, where Romans, Scots, and English have clashed and coexisted for centuries. You will feel the thrill and satisfaction of completing one of the toughest ultras in the UK and you will be part of a select group of adventurers who have dared to take on the Enchanted Ultra.

The Enchanted Ultra will take place on Saturday, September 14th, 2024. The entry fee is £70, which includes a digital route map, a GPS tracker, Marshals around the course and Medical Cover, 2 fully stocked aid stations (with REAL Coke), Soup and sandwiches at the finishline, a finisher’s medal and a certificate.

The Route - Start at The Mart in Wooler. Pass Humbleton Hill to join the St Cuthberts way and continue past the ancient hillfort of Yeavering Bell. Proceed to checkpoint 1 at Hethpool (10 miles). Follow the College Valley to Mounthooley. Pass close to Hen Hole as you make the climb up Cheviot but avoid the fairies. Descend Cheviot via the Harthope Burn (between Cheviot and Hedghope) leading to check point 2 at Langleeford (22 miles).
