Loch Ken Wild Swim 2024
Get ready for the annual Loch Ken Wild Swim! Stunning scenery, clean calm water and a safe, family friendly welcome from the Galloway Activity Centre.
The event is now in it's 13th year and has a range of distances suited to all experience levels. Set within the picturesque Galloway hills and with some of the cleanest water in Scotland, it's hard to find a nicer place to swim.
There will be a 500m, 1km, 2km and 4km distance, along with a short 100m kids Splash! swim (including some of the famous Wobbly Waterpark). The swims are completed around a 1km circular course (with the 500m doing a smaller lap). Don't forget to also check out the Night Swims on Friday night and the 10Km on Sunday.
Entry fees include a hot drink, snack and finishers medal.
Safety Cover
The Galloway Activity Centre is an AALA licenced and registered RYA training centre and will provide safety cover with a mix of powered safety boats, a high ratio of paddlers to swimmers and the Galloway MRT's Water Rescue Team. First Aid is provided by Event First Aid & Rescue (EFAR).
The clean, clear waters of Loch Ken are ideal for wild swimming. The water is SEPA tested and as part of the hydro electric scheme is regularly filled with fresh water from the Rhinns of Kells. The temperature is usually around 14 degrees celsius and wetsuits are compulsory (£2.50 to hire a from GAC). Shorties or sleeveless one piece suits are allowed.
Charity Sponsorship
The centre works in partnership with the Galloway Mountain Rescue Team and swimmers can make an optional donation to this essential service. We're also encouraging anyone taking part to try and raise extra money by asking for sponsorship. If this is of interest to you then please get in touch and we can send you a sponsorship form.
