The Isle of Jura Fell Race is a true test of hillcraft, endurance and fell running technique. It is one of the toughest challenges in British hill racing at this distance, and one of the best weekends on the calendar.

Full details of essential experience for competitors is set out on our webpage (https://www.isleofjurafellrace.co.uk/2024-entry-information). Please read in full before entering.

Race fee:  £50. We are committed to maximising access and participation to the Isle of Jura Fell Race. A number of free entries are available for runners whose circumstances mean they cannot afford the entry fee. If this applies to you please contact the race organiser.

Entry dates: 8th – 29th January 2024. Entries received after 29th January will not be accepted.

Number of entries available: The race will accept 250 runners on the start line. We may allocate more than 250 places based on previous experience of race day no shows. A waiting list will be managed.

Invitations to enter: Invitations to enter the race will be sent out in February to all those successful. The place must be accepted, and entry fee paid by the end of February, or else the place will be forfeited and offered to someone else.

Allocation of race places and vetting: All entries will be vetted, with those who are not considered to have 'adequate relevant experience' rejected. If sufficient places are available, all fully qualified entrants will be granted a place in the race. If there are too many fully qualified entrants for the number of places available, as has been the case in previous years, a portion of entries will be allocated to runners who fall into the categories below:

  • Entrants who have completed 15 or more previous Isle of Jura Fell Races;
  • Previous winners of the race, male and female;
  • The first 6 male finishers and first 6 female finishers in the previous year’s race;
  • Any entrant who, in the opinion of the race committee, has made or is expected to make a significant contribution to the overall success of the race.

All remaining entries which have passed the vetting process will be subject to a ballot. We are committed to improving the diversity of entrants to the Isle of Jura Fell Race. The first ten ballot places will be ring-fenced for female and non-binary entrants who have passed the vetting process. The Race Organiser will also endeavour to allocate 25% of places to those who have not run the race previously.

All decisions of the Race Organiser regarding adequate relevant experience, and in respect of the allocation of places, are final.

Teams: Male and female teams of three runners from the same club. Prizes will be awarded to teams with the fastest combined times. You MUST state your club when entering to be included in a team.

Cut-offs: Check points 1-6 will operate strict cut-off times (see here for details). In 2024 we hope to offer an early start for suitably qualified runners who may find the cut-offs at the early check points challenging. This will be confirmed by the end of March - please email us if you have any questions.

Travel and accommodation on Jura: All those travelling to Jura for the race should ensure that they "leave no trace" on the island. All runners and their families are encouraged to leave vehicles on the mainland. A bike and a tent will only enhance your Jura experience. As last year, we kindly ask all competitors to refrain in particular from bringing vans to the island which has no suitable facilities for this.

Withdrawals: A refund of £40 will be made to any entrant who gives notice of their withdrawal from the race on or before 31st March 2024, and a refund of £25 will be made to those who withdraw on or before 30th April 2024. No refund will be made to any entrant who gives notice of withdrawal after 30th April 2024. The event is always  oversubscribed and we need to give those on the Waiting List the best chance of getting an entry and having time to get some training in. If you are unable to attend, you must cancel your entry even if it is too late to be refunded. If you don’t turn up at the event and you haven’t cancelled your entry, we reserve the right to not offer you a place in a future Jura Fell Race.

Additional information: All information that competitors require can be found on the race website at www.isleofjurafellrace.co.uk. A full runners' briefing will be e-mailed to all successful entrants a week prior to the race.

Social Media: The Facebook page will be used to give regular updates and there is a competitor's group for runners to use as a forum.
