A 28 MILE CHALLENGE WALK THROUGH LONDON

ORGANISED BY LONG DISTANCE WALKERS ASSOCIATION LONDON GROUP

Launched in 2017, the Original Route for the Capital Challenge is a 28-mile urban challenge walk organised by the London Group to celebrate the capital. It passes through some of London's best open spaces including Royal Parks, Hampstead & Highgate, the Woodberry Wetlands, the River Lea, and Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, and it includes some surprises along the way. The route is almost completely mud-free and passes a wide variety of shops and cafés along much of its length. There are 4 checkpoints, 2 with simple refreshments; the finish is at a café in Stratford, close to public transport (Stratford Tube and Train Station). 28 miles; 200 walkers only.

Route Description/GPX file:

The 2024 route description can be downloaded in Word format and PDF format closer to the event.  The GPX file will be made available one week before the event to participants.

Start, Checkpoints, and Finish:

Start between 0745 and 0845 from Waterloo. Hot drinks will be provided.  All entrants will receive a scannable identity card to present at each checkpoint and finish to track progress.  The start is close to Waterloo Station (mainline and tubes) and a short walk from Embankment Station (District, Circle, Bakerloo and Northern tube lines).

Checkpoints will provide simple refreshments, some will be suitable for vegetarians / vegans, but NO BOTTLED WATER, to reduce the amount of plastic waste this walk generates; instead, the route description will point out water fountains along the way and we will, where possible, provide pitchers of good old hard London tap water at checkpoints.

Finish by 1830 (near Stratford Tube and Train Station). Hot drinks and cake will be provided.

Entry is online only, via SiEntries. There will be no entry on the day.

Note to those who are not members of the LDWA: annual membership of the LDWA costs £18 for individuals (£15 with direct debit); to join, visit www.ldwa.org.uk
