The Cairngorms is the largest, most northerly National Park in the UK, though it is primarily known for having the highest range of mountains in the country. This spectacular landscape also includes heather moorlands, forests, lowland farms and crofts, wetlands, rivers and pretty villages – all of which will be encountered during this 2-day event.
The lush, fertile valley of the River Spey, flowing through the National Park, is undoubtedly the heart of single malt whisky distilling in Scotland. Over half of Scotland’s malt whisky distilleries can be found in Speyside, the northeast corner of the Scottish highlands, and the route will pass a number of these iconic buildings.
The area is home to some of the most iconic wildlife species as well as flora that would be at home in Arctic or Alpine settings. It is a privilege that we have been able to set the LDWA’s flagship event, the 100-mile walk, in this stunning location in 2024.
Over 2 million visitors a year blend into the wilderness here. 500 lucky participants will also get to experience this magical place as the route largely wends its way through and around the Park and the Spey valley, starting and finishing at Boat of Garten.
We would like to thank the Cairngorms National Park Authority, the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds and Forestry Land Scotland for their valuable advice and support throughout the planning stages and for enabling us to put on this event in such a stunning location.
