GENERAL

50 miles in 22 hours. A challenge event through the undulating countryside of North Norfolk, with a different start this year from Sheringham. The event format is simple. Checkpoint facilities are minimal, but plenty of food and hot/cold drinks provided. There will be 5 checkpoints, one with hot food and hot food at the finish. Approximately half the event will be in darkness. This is a winter event so be prepared for the weather to be inclement. Previous experience of night navigation will be advantageous. Please be aware this event requires a good level of fitness and stamina . The Winter Poppy is a good training event and also a qualifying event for the Speyside 100. Sorry no dogs allowed on this event (they are not allowed on the school grounds).

Start: Hall opens at 07.00 for registration for Walkers/slow runners  starting at 07.30. 08.30 registration for runners for a 09.00 start. Please do not turn up earlier than 30 minutes before your planned start time. When choosing a start time please take into account the opening /closing times of checkpoints. Anyone arriving outside those times will have to wait (if early), or will be retired from the event (if late).

Checkpoint open and closing times will be strictly adhered to.

Everyone should have completed the event by 06.00 on the Sunday 11th. Showers will be available at the finish.  Quiet hall will be available for those wishing to have a sleep before heading home. School to be vacated by 10.00 Sunday.

SAFETY

Please adhere to all the Government & LDWA guidelines at all times. 

ESSENTIAL EQUIPMENT : Route description and map of the complete route. If you are using an electronic mapping device the maps must be downloaded and you must carry a spare power source. Route descriptions must be downloaded before the event, as they will not be available on the day. The route description, including checkpoint opening & closing times, and GPX files will be published on the Norfolk & Suffolk website in the week before the event. 

FOOD/DRINK

Torch/spare batteries, Mug, Warm clothing (likely to be cold at night) waterproof jacket & trousers. Trousers/leggings to be carried if wearing shorts during the day. Water bottle 500ml. Emergency food(snacks) First aid kit.

FOOD/DRINK

We will provide hot/cold drinks and snacks throughout the event. A warm meal will be provided at Aylsham,  Checkpoint 3 and at the finish. We cater for meat eaters and vegetarians. There will be limited vegan food, so it is advisable to bring some additional food of your own. We cannot cater for those with special dietary requirements. If you have a special dietary requirement and wish to bring your own food in a sealed and  named container, we will endeavour to get it to the checkpoint of your choice.

We cannot guarantee the food we provide will be allergen-free, so please ask if in doubt.

RETIREMENTS

You must inform an event marshal that you are withdrawing from the event. Retirees will be taken back to the HQ.

CANCELLATION

A £2.00 admin fee will be charged on cancellation refunds advised before 29th Jan 2024 after this date no refunds will be given.

If the event is canceled for any reason (severe weather/Government restrictions) the organisers will endeavour to update all entrants accordingly. The organisers will issue and email and put a notice on the event and main LDWA websites. Entrants are strongly advised to check this before departure.

Cancellation will be at the discretion of the organisers and entry fee will be refunded, less a proportional amount for the unavoidable costs.
