The Epona 100 is bought to you by the founders and race directors of Pegasus Ultra Running and Wild Horse 200. Immerse yourself in the wonders of this captivating 100 mile adventure through the mountains and trails of south Wales.

Epona was a Celtic Goddess, protector of all horses and now trail runners. We aren't doing things hugely different at Epona - we are just giving our runners, walkers and hikers the best opportunity to finish a tough event in a supportive environment with a company that cares.

Running 100 miles is an incredible feat of human endurance and we will celebrate with you! Whenever you cross that finish line, our pledge to you is that the Race Director will be there with open arms, a big smile, possibly a tear in the eye and a hoofing big bear hug (hugs are optional) to welcome you home.

The Beautiful Route

This incredible 100 mile looped course adventure is very much achievable with the right training and approach. The route itself may seem a little daunting with 17,000 ft of elevation gain but the course itself is very much runable and let's be honest we all walk at some point during a 100 miler. It just means you can take in some of the most breathtaking views Wales has to offer. The beautiful mix of Offa's, Cambrian and Beacons really do come together to deliver one whistle stop tour full of highlights that will live long in the memory and the legs.

Starting off from the quaint market town of Abergavenny, runners, walkers and hikers will be treated to an adventure through Y Mynyddoedd Duon and the lesser known parts of Bannau Brycheiniog. A tailor made course that predominantly takes place on the Cambrian Way, Offa's Dyke and Beacons Way with the goal of showcasing some of the most beautiful terrain and views that Wales has to offer.

The Race HQ - Abergavenny

The market town of Abergavenny will play host to the Epona 100. A town steeped in history with some of the most well loved mountains in Wales, let alone the UK.

Point of interest (quite literally) - The Sugar Loaf Mountain

The Sugar Loaf mountain dominates the skyline of the surrounding countryside and provides a spectacular backdrop to the Epona 100. We love the mountain that much we thought we'd send you up it twice on the Epona 100.

Peering between the ridges of the Llanwenarth, Deri and Rholben hills, the Sugar Loaf is one of the highest peaks in the heart of the Black Mountains. It stands at 1,955 feet high and offers glorious panoramic views across south Wales, the Brecon Beacons, and into south-west England.

Where do the bumps come from?

The Epona 100 will be a mental and physical roller coaster at times with an accumulative elevation gain of 17,000 ft over 100 miles - this course packs a punch but also a big cwtch. There are plenty of runable sections with lots of downhill for those who love cutting loose. Since you wondered, we thought we'd list every mountain you tackle in order of ascent - Sugar Loaf, Skirrid Fawr, The Blorenge, Gilwern Hill, Blaen Onneu, Mynydd Llangynidr, Pant y Creigiau, Bryn Melyn, Tor y Foel, Table Mountain, Pen Cerrig Calch, Pen Allt Mawr, Pen Tywn Glas, Mynydd Llysiau, Pen Trumau, Waun Fach, Pen Y Gadair Fawr, Rhos Dirion, Twmpa, Hay Bluff, Twyn Llech, Black Mountain, Sugar Loaf for a second time - that's a grand total of 23 mountains.

Will there be checkpoints?

There are 9 checkpoints in total and 1 finish line (did we even have to mention that). You will never have to travel too far without seeing some of the most incredible volunteers out there (they truly do rock). Our checkpoints will be fully loaded with excellent food options, gallons of delicious drinks and wholehearted volunteers that will be above and beyond to help you on your adventure.

All food allergies can be and will be catered for - as long as you let you know before the event (sadly we aren't mind readers). Full menus will be shared with runners closer to the event date.

What about these cut off times?

At Epona, we are all about the adventure and we really don't want you stressing too much over cut off times. You will have a total time of 50 hours to get across that finish line. That is genuinely a lot of time. It's an average of 2 miles per hour and we know if you are signing up to tackle a 100 miler then you have it within you to average at least 30 minutes per mile.

Are drop bags allowed?

Drop bags are recommended but NOT compulsory. Each runner is entitled to 1 x drop bag and it must NOT exceed 45 cm x  75.5 cm x 45cm; Volume: 132 litres in size. Your 1 x drop bag will be available to you at miles 20, 53 and 73. Please note all drop bags will be returned to the finish line in time for your finish. Plastic boxes or suitcases will not be allowed.

How much does it cost?

Right now the entry fee for the Epona 100 is an early bird special of £155.00 until September 1st 2023. After this date the cost will go up to £175.00. Sign up early. Save some bucks.

What bang do you get for your buck?

Limited edition Epona 100 belt buckle (for all finishers)

Limited edition Epona 100 weighty medal (for all finishers)

Live tracking of all runners

Fully loaded checkpoints

Emergency medical cover

Experienced, dedicated and bloody awesome crew members

Professionally organised event and much more

Who are these fricking awesome race organisers?

We are the team behind Pegasus Ultra Running and Wild Horse 200. You can either love us or hate us. It's all groovy. We've been working in the ultra trail running industry since 2012 and competing in events since 2010. This isn't our first rodeo and it won't be our last.

Our goal is to make Epona 100 the gold standard of 100 milers in Wales. Taking all the good stuff, phasing out the bull shit and just putting on a proper event that welcomes everyone with a smile and a cwtch (google it if you're not sure, it's a good excuse to learn some Welsh and it's a great language).

What to expect once you've signed up?

A friendly ‘welcome to the adventure’ (event) email will be sent to the email address you registered with.

The next time you will hear from us (directly) will be in the form of an email 8 weeks before your chosen event, then another email 4 weeks before the event and a final email 2 weeks before the event.

Alas that isn’t the last communication – please keep an eye on your mobile for a phone call from our Race Director a couple of days before the event is due to take place – don’t worry you haven’t done anything wrong, it’s a peace of mind call to make sure you're ready for the big day!

Let's wrap this up. We're not promising you an easy run. My goodness there is a total elevation gain of 17,000 ft.....but please know this is very much an achievable challenge with the right training and game plan on the day(s).

Epona will help you reach your wildest dreams when it comes to running a 100 miler. Over and out.
