Come and discover one of County Durham's best hidden secrets. At night!
This is a challenging off-road trail race, of roughly 8 miles, hosted by Derwent Valley Trail Runners and taking place in the beautiful Derwent Valley, home to the famous Red Kite. The race starts from the Dipton Jubilee Centre (DH9 9DR) and the course will be fully marked. You will also be looked after by our super-friendly marshals. The terrain is a mixture of interesting trails, twisting and turning through ancient woodland, rocky underfoot in parts, with a small section of fast paths.
The route is the same as the daytime route in July made more challenging by the darkness and a headtorch is an absolute must. It will be well marshalled and marked with reflective signs, but you should be able to self-navigate with confidence. A gpx file is available if required.
This is not a walking event and may contain a few hills…
The race is open to those aged 18 and over only.
A gpx file of the route can be found here: download gpx
On the day entries will be allowed, subject to availability. No deferrals or refunds will be offered and there will be no waiting list operated this year. However, substitutions will be allowed up to the closing date of entries. This is a straightforward process and enables entrants to administer this themselves.
This will be the first running of the event, following the success of our daytime one in previous years, and a discount is available to those who sign up for both events at the same time.
Rather than t-shirts, entrants have the opportunity to purchase uniquely designed slate coasters, which build to a matching set for those entering both the daytime and night-time events.
Free car parking is available at Dipton Collierly Primary School and Dipton Surgery. Spaces are not unlimited so we would strongly encourage car sharing, wherever possible, to ensure minimal impact on local residents and any potential ill will for future events.
Numbers are to be collected from the Jubilee Centre at registration, which opens at 5:30pm. The race starts at 6:30pm, with a cut-off of two and a half hours, and presentations will be made at 8:30pm. Medical support will be available, and refreshments will be provided on the course (around the half-way mark).
Soup and a bun will be available after the race, with gluten free options, at the Jubilee Centre.
We would like to thank all of our supporters, particularly Northern Runner, who help make this event what it is.
Club Charity This year, the committee has agreed to support PACT House Stanley, charity number 1172612, which is a hub for community access to help reduce isolation, support people with well-being, address and support local people in poverty. All donations would be very welcome.
