Introduction to Skyrunning - single day course

Let Mountain Run's seasoned skyrunning instructors help you to gain the skills necessary to take on your first skyrace or develop your skill further to excel in the races you have booked. 

Based in Borrowdale | All about an Intro to Skyrunning

What to expect:

  • Technical ground and ease non-graded scrambling
  • Up and Downhill Skills
  • Efficiency of movement over technical terrain

What will you learn? 

  • How to move over technical terrain found in most skyraces
  • Efficiency of movement patterns for ease of travel
  • How to scramble on rocky and un-graded scrambling terrain
  • Up and downhill running techniques
  • Scree running
  • How to pace your race
  • When to run, when to walk

Who is it for? 

All would be skyrunners, trail and fell runners wanting to develop their skyrunning skills, abilities and confidence so you can tackle your first or next race with total confidence. Any runner who is interested in the niche, explosive and growing sport of skyrunning and skyracing.

Course Program

09:30 to 17:30

  • 2.5 hours of uphill/downhill/skyrunning skills
  • Break - 30 minutes to eat, hydrate and talk
  • 5 hours 'actual skyrunning' over technical sections of the Rab Scafell Sky Race route - with Mountain Run inc. 15k skyrun with 900m ascent

Meeting Location: Borrowdale YHA, Longthwaite, CA12 5XE

What to bring

  • Waterproof jacket & trousers (taped seams please)
  • Spare L/S base layer, Primaloft layer or similar (no cotton please)
  • Hat or buff
  • Gloves
  • Hill food/Lunch Snacks
  • Race Vest/Small Pack to put it all in.
  • Sky, Mountain or Trail running shoes.
  • An open mind and willingness to learn

Please be aware we might be moving at slow speeds at some points during the day: please account for this in your clothing selection.
