****We've now ordered the additional hire transponders we think we need for the weekend.   Entries close on Thursday evening at 6pm or when the cap of 80 is reached, whatever is earliest.   Remember there will be no entries on the day so get your entry in while there is space****

By kind permission of Forest and Land Scotland, hosted by Galloway Hillbillies Bike Club, timed by Sportident.

Easy, affordable, beginner level enduro stage event designed for anybody on any mountain bike, rigid, hardtail or full suspension. Suitable for Novice through to Pro level.

2, easily accessible stages, both starting from top of Bruce's drop, with only a small push up from top of fire road.

1st stage, Lungbuster, is 2.3km with 110m descent, on easy natural trails (Carol Baskin) at start, joining the blue waymarked trail back to center and finishing in event field. We intend to utilise the old single track that used to pass by the Gem Stane, near the Bruntis and Hillbilly Helpers have been working with FLS staff to clear this classic bit of single track from storm damage. There is one minor bypass where 11 windblown trees await harvester clearing so we have made a route around.

2nd stage, Monkey Pox, is shorter and steeper, but all rollable, at 1.4km long and 107m descent. It starts from Bruces drop, on B line XC course from National Champs course, following red trail in reverse to Cairn, avoiding 'carnage' from the PMBA event, then following red way marked trail to natural Monkey Pox trail, finishing in event field. Again, Hillbilly Helpers have been busy on this trail to make it ready for enduro in February.

Schedule

  • 8am - Gates Open.
  • 8.30 - Sign On opens.   Get your chip.
  • 9.30am - Marshals and First Aid in Place on Stage 1.  Stage 1 Opens.
  • 11.30am - Stage 1 Shuts.   Marshal and First Aid Lunch Break.
  • 1.00pm - Marshals and First Aid in Place on Stage 2.  Stage 2 Opens.
  • 3.00pm - Stage 2 Shuts.   Return your chip.
  • 3.15pm Podiums for each category.  Spot Prizes.

The plan is to do Stage 1 in the morning, then everybody, including marshals, stop for lunch, then Stage 2 in afternoon. Everybody is obliged to do 2 runs on each stage with their best time on each stage counting towards result. But if you think you can do better with another run, you are welcome to try within the stage open window.

Timing is by SIAC with SportIdent. After working with Sportident for many years, early in 2023, Galloway Hillbillies Bike Club have purchased Sportident timing apparatus and invested time to learn how to use it.  We intend to operate the kit ourselves for the first time, although we will have Sportident personnel on hand to ensure it runs smoothly. Please be patient with us.

You must register at sign on, before obtaining your SIAC timing chip. Wear your chip on your left wrist. Make sure your chip is activated before leaving on the transition to the top of the stage. If your chip is not activated, you won't register a time and you'll have pedaled all the way up for nothing.

At each stage start, there will be a marshal, a sign saying 'stage start', and a small timing beacon at the top of each stage, so you know you are about to enter the stage. Your start time will be communicated and written to your timing chip when you come within 1.5m of the beacon. You don't need to pause or slow down. Your finish time will be communicated and written to your timing chip when you fly past within 3m of the large timing beacon at the bottom of the stage where there will be a sign to say stage finish. You can find out your time when you present the timing chip to our timekeeper at Hillbilly HQ where you can obtain a timing ticket which will indicate your position in category. Informal prize giving at Cafe after 2nd stage.

Emphasis on fun. Everybody welcome. If you are novice and have wondered about enduro, then this event is for you. If you are pro level then this will be a great winter training session and great for beginner riders to see your skills.

We will be looking for marshals closer to the event. Each marshal will be provided with a radio, a whistle, flags and a lunch ticket for cafe for a snack and a drink.

Kids must be accompanied by a riding chaperone, a parent or guardian or adult nominated by parent or guardian . Minimum age is 8.    We will offer a free taster session for those budding bikers who are below the age of 8.
