Ripley Castle, Brimham Rocks, Scar House Reservoir and How Stean Gorge are just four of the iconic Yorkshire locations on this epic ultramarathon trail run along the Nidderdale Way, a 55-mile route set in an area of outstanding natural beauty. Perfect for everyone from those looking to complete a first ultra, to seasoned long-distance running veterans, there is a choice of four different distances, from half a loop to the challenging double.

Car Park: Nidderdale Showground, Pateley Bridge, HG3 5BD ///cross.palace.producers
Toilets: There is a toilet block next to the Event Gazebo in the Car Park

Dogs: Dog Walking is not permitted on the showground as there are Sheep roaming in the field. If you bring a dog they will have to stay in your vehicle, but there is a park opposite to walk them.

Camping/Caravans/Motorhomes: Nidderdale Showground, Pateley Bridge, HG3 5BD ///cross.palace.producers
There is a toilet black and running water, there are no electrical hookups.
Friday Night: 
If you wish to stay at the Showground on the Friday Night, please arrive after 6pm. There is an additional charge for this when you register for the event.
Saturday Night: This is included in your entry fee and you are welcome to stay on Saturday night.

Registration: At the Event Gazebo in the Car Park
Friday: From 19:00 to 21:00
Saturday: from 06:00 to 06:45

Trackers: All entrants will be supplied with a tracker. When you collect your tracker at registration it will already switched on and you will be given instructions on where to carry it. During the race the tracker will show on the Nidderdale Weekend 2023 Saturday Tracker Screen You can share this link with your friends and family so they can see how you are doing. If you click the podium icon on the tracker screen it will show you each runners ETA at the CPs and their projected finish time based on their current speed. Please note there is a big button on the front of your tracker, if you need emergency help, provided the tracker is in range press it and remain where you are, this ends your race.

Route: Provisional GPX files of the route and route description are available from the GPX tab on the website. The final version will be emailed to all competitors with the Final Race Instructions the week before the event. You MUST use the email version as this will take into account any last minute diversions.

Taping: We will NOT be taping this event as it mainly on the well waymarked Nidderdale Way.

Kit list: We will not be doing a kit check at registration, but you will be expected to always carry the following as a minimum for your safety. (You are responsible for your own safety). We will be carrying out random kit checks on the course and if you are found not carrying your full kit, you will be disqualified.

  • Suitable Bag for all your kit (not a carrier bag!)   
  • Waterproof Jacket with taped seams.
  • Enough fluids to get you to the next CP.
  • Cup to enable you to get drinks at CPs.
  • Energy Bar/Nutrition.
  • Survival/Bivvy Bag (not just a sheet).
  • Whistle.
  • Mobile phone with race director’s number: Mark 07702 021156 Ryk (07950 008005) stored in it.
    PLEASE LEAVE YOUR PHONE ON AT ALL TIMES SO THAT WE CAN CONTACT YOU IF NECESSARY.
  • Tracker for Ultramarathon (supplied by us) MUST be always worn.
  • Hat/buff.
  • Gloves.
  • Personal First Aid Kit.
  • Hard copy of the Map/Route description (Details will be sent with final competitor instructions see below)
  • Head Torch

NB: Dependent on the weather this list may be amended when the final competitor instructions are sent out.

Start: From the Car Park at 07:00 (Head Torches Must Be Worn)

Saturday Checkpoints: Each checkpoint has water, coke, energy bars & crisps.
CP1: Birstwith (10 miles) Open 08:30 Close 10:30
CP2: Brimham Hall (21 miles) Open 10:15 Close 14:00
CP3: Pateley Bridge (28 miles) Open 12:00 Close 17:00
CP4: Bouthwaite (33 miles) Open 13:30 Close 23:59
CP5: Scar House Reservoir (41 miles) Open 14:30 Close 22:00
CP6: Bouthwaite (49 miles) Open 11:30 Close 23:59

The Dark Skies races visits CP4 after 6 and 20 miles and CP5 after 14 miles.

For those going round for an extra half or full lap the following will be manned

Pateley Bridge will remain open during the whole event until Sunday 19:00.

Pateley Bridge: For those doing more than 28 miles, when you return to Pateley Bridge you must report to the Event Gazebo, you may then return to your car on the event field for as long as you like (or even pop into Pateley Bridge itself), but you must return to the Event Gazebo to let us know that you are going back out on the course.

Drop Bags: 83 & 111 Mile course only. You may leave returnable bags at registration which will be transferred to Ripley and Scar House (111 mile only). It must be no larger than a carrier bag and should be clearly labelled with your name.

Support Crews: Please ensure any support crews avoid official CPs except CP4 and CP6. Anyone breaking this rule will result in their runner being disqualified. If you have a support crew there are plenty of other places to meet you on the route. Those doing more than 55 miles can receive support anywhere (within reason!).

Finish: Every finisher receives a medal and an event T-Shirt (unless you opt out). There is carrot and coriander soup, cheese toasties, 10 bean chilli, (suitable for vegan and Gluten Free) in addition to hot drinks and snacks at the finish.

Final Competitor instructions: 
These will be emailed to all competitors the week before the event.
