Based in the town where the showbiz legend and former Tour of Britain rider is now buried this new event aims to encourage people to set a challenge for themselves by talking part in a testing 65 mile cycle ride.
Not a race, the emphasis on this event is personal achievement so if you only do one bike ride a year, make this it!
Sir Jimmy, (known as Oscar during his cycling career) was renowned for the many physical challenges he undertook and a scenic cycle ride in his adopted home town is a fitting way to honour his memory and continue to raise funds for his charitable causes
Starting and finishing on Oliver’s Mount, where the Scarborough Festival of Cycling will be taking place riders enjoy the smell of candy floss and sea air before turning inland on quiet, ‘rolling’ roads into the scenic Dalby Forest.
Leaving the forest the ride rolls across the flat Vale of Pickering before climbing the Yorkshire Wolds and enjoying breathtaking scenery on the crest of the hills, turning inland for a steep descent and heading back into Scarborough using National Cycle network riders climb Oliver’s Mount to conclude their challenge
This event is organised with the support and agreement of the family of the late Sir Jimmy Savile and all profits from the event will support Charities and Good causes favoured by Sir Jimmy himself.
On the day rider registration will open at 0730 on the 14th, and riders will make their way in small groups.
The usual high quality support associated will be provided, and for those wishing to enjoy a more leisurely ride there are many excellent cafes, ice-cream parlours and tea rooms , but make sure you are back for the event close at 1700 hrs!
