Many thanks for entering the first race of our Kong Winter Series 2025/26 - Stybarrow Dodd.
A huge thanks to all of our marshals who turn up whatever the weather to put on events for you to enjoy - please thank them whether they are helping with parking or on top of a fell - this series would not go ahead without their generosity.
Parking is very limited so please try to car share as much as possible.
Please arrive no earlier than 9am. Our parking marshals will direct you to the nearest available parking which is:
Track joining the St Johns in the Vale road and the main A591 road into Keswick
Roadside along the A591 - if you park here, please ensure that your car is off the road and is not obstructing traffic or road users in any way
Legburthwaite Car Park - there is a £4 charge for using this
Please take care when walking to registration as the A591 is a busy road.
There is no parking for competitors at the Village Hall - this is used for the race event team and the spaces outside of the village hall car park are now private.
Registration is at Thirlmere People's Hall (at the bottom of Sticks Pass) and it opens at 9.30am and closes at 10.45am. You must bring full kit and get kit checked BEFORE you register. You are welcome to leave any spare clothing bags in the hall while you race. The race starts at 11am.
You will need to carry the following with you during the race:
If you don't have this kit with you, you will not be allowed to race.
The forecast is currently showers with winds up to possibly 30mph with wind chill making it seem like -5C degrees on the summit. It will be winter weather so please bring clothing appropriate to the weather conditions.
The full course is a lollipop shape. It will be flagged to the fell wall, then follow the main path up the hill. High on up the fell, you take a narrow trod off left up to Stybarrow summit and your first checkpoint. From the summit, take the main path south along the ridgeline towards Raise and Helvellyn. You will reach the col and your second checkpoint very quickly. From the second checkpoint, turn right back down the main path and descend steeply all the way to the finish.
This event will use the SIAC – a contactless timing card which avoids the need to dip the card.
At the end of the event, whether you Finish or need to retire, all SIACS MUST be handed in to the Registration/Download desk. Telling a checkpoint marshal isn't sufficient. Reporting to the Finish is an essential safety requirement of the event and avoids an unnecessary call out to mountain rescue and a potential ban by the FRA from future events. You will not get a result for the event until the SIAC is handed in as all your times are stored on the card. Failure to hand back a hired SIAC will incur a charge of £50 and could disqualify you from taking part in a future event.

Results will be uploaded soon after you hand in your SIAC (Timing Card) and If you scan the QR Code at the bottom of your splits print, you can see online results on your phone at the venue, mobile signal permitting.
PLEASE BRING YOUR OWN MUG TO RECEIVE HOT OR COLD DRINKS AFTER THE RACE.
There will be hot and cold drinks and biscuits in the hall after the race and we will be having a prize presentation shortly after the race has finished at about 12.30pm. We will be awarding prizes in the following categories - U23, Senior, V40, V50, V60 and V70 both male and female if there are sufficient entries. We will also be providing prizes for the fastest man and woman to Stybarrow Summit and the fastest man and woman back down to the finish.
We are sponsored again this year by Terrex.
Finally, many thanks again for supporting our Winter Series - we hope that you enjoy the race and look forward to seeing you at the 4 other events in the Winter series.
