Entries:

Please note, runners under 16 on the day of the event must be accompanied by a responsible adult, because of the road crossings.

Only pre-entries are allowed with no entry on the day. Please note that this event is part of a series of five events. You may wish to save disappointment by entering all or some of the events at the same time.

If you are a newcomer to the sport and do not have a an orienteering dibber (to record visiting the controls, also called an SI-Card) then please indicate that you need to borrow an SI-Card.

Any SROC members who do not own a dibber can request - contact Chris Roberts - to collect one at the event and keep it for the foreseeable future.

Courses:

The events in the SROC Summer Series are intended to appeal to both newcomers and experienced orienteers alike. The technical difficulty is such that experience is an advantage but not a necessity.

There will be one course, split into two parts: the Prologue and the Final. All runners will run the Prologue first, with start times between 6.30 and 7pm. Please choose your start block from those available. This is to help spread out people at the start. They will then, if they wish, run the Final. Both courses will be planned to "sprint" length, meaning a winning time for top athletes of 12-15 minutes per race. More normal mortals might expect to take 20-25 minutes.

Also optional is to join the "chasing start" for the Final. If you don't fancy the challenge of staying ahead of faster runners, or indeed of catching slower runners, you can start the Final whenever you want. Either way the results will show a total time taken for both parts added together. Chasing starters will be set off in reverse order of their Prologue finishing times, with only a small gap between runners.

You may expect that the planner has included either butterflies (loops taken in different order) or some other way to split the runners and prevent following.

Terrain:

Urban housing estate with many pathways and green areas. Some small roads to be crossed.

Starts:

10 minutes start blocks for the Prologue, starts between 18.30 and 19.00.

The Start is close to the parking area. Only go to the start just prior to starting.

Remember to:

  • Sanitise your hands using the sanitiser provided and keep at least 2m apart.
  • Clear and check your dibber

Please maintain approximately  intervals between starters, physically punch the start and then pick up your map from the box provided (please ensure you only take one).

Finish/Download:

Please move away from the Finish quickly, and proceed directly to download forming a queue if necessary keeping at least 2m apart. Use the sanitiser provided before you download and take the splits – these are pre cut and you do not need to touch the printer. Please move away from download quickly.

Listen out for instructions for the Final start.

Results will not be displayed on the day but will be on the website www.sroc.org in the evening.
