2021 British Athletics Hill & Fell Running Championship Race Fell Race over a variety of terrain on the edge of the Eden Valley and Pennines.

11km with 900m of climb.

Race will start next to the iconic fountain in the centre of Dufton and it will finish in the field behind the Stag Inn (Dufton).

A fell race that effectively finishes at a pub, what’s not to like!

Most of the course formed the backbone of my training runs from back in the day when I was good (former Brit Champ etc). However for a once only deal, we can run down the famous line that can clearly be seen from the village and which runs down the front of Dufton Pike (locals call this Morgans Line), before running through farm fields for a very spectator friendly and visible finish.

There will be enough space on the village green for everyone to start together at noon (Saturday 4th September 2021). Winning time expected to be around about the hour mark. Course will be obvious (anyone who has done my High Cup Nick race can vouch for the efforts I go to on that front).

The race will also contain a Preem relating to fastest ascent on the second climb (Brownber).

Logistics

Everyone will need to use the official event car park. Parking fees are wrapped up with the entry fees (so no hidden extras).

Water will be provided at the finish of the main event. Otherwise the village boasts a fantastic pub (https://thestagdufton.co.uk/) and a café (https://www.postboxpantry.co.uk/).

Dufton has an official campsite (https://duftoncaravanpark.co.uk/). The campsite is not the largest, so if we have significant interest in the Prologue and people do want to stay over we will organise a pop up campsite.

Main race will start at Noon (12) on Saturday 4th September 2021.

Prologue will start at 6pm on Friday 3rd September 2021.

Most of the course can be practised on in advance as its on open access land or existing rights of way. No one is allowed to practice the finishing leg from the base of Dufton Pike through the farm fields to the back of the Stag, this is for race day only.

Registration will be in Dufton Village Hall.

The race will donate all of its profits to the village toilets, which were recently given to the village by the local authority (EDC). EDC would otherwise have closed these public toilets. The village now have to run the toilets (cleaning, toilet rolls, electricity etc all costs money) and we would prefer not to charge users, so fund raising and donations is the way we are trying to go.

The extent of prizes for these races will reflect the number of entrants, so the more folks that enter the more generous we can be. British Championship Medals will also be awarded at the prize giving.
