A fantastic ~6mi race from Lamlash on the Isle of Arran. Mainly trail, with 850ft of climbing - and some severe ascents! Running above glorious Lamlash Bay, with views across to the splendid massif of the Holy Isle, this race should, weather permitting, give some magnificent vistas.
The race will start in the middle of Lamlash and proceed up Park Terrace and Benlister Road to wheel right at Benlister onto a steep farm access road. Leaving this track, runners will cross the moor for 250 yards and enter the Forest before turning right on the Forestry track to the top of the Lamlash- Brodick main road. The course then follows a rough footpath back down to Lamlash where runners will cross the main road (A841) and head south to finish on Lamlash Green, across the road from the start.
The course is just under 6 miles with 1.3 miles on tarmac road or pavement, with some technical sections of tough climbing. Trail shoes with grip would be the recommended footwear.
There are a variety of fine eating and drinking places in Lamlash.
The race starts at 2.30p.m. allowing time for mainland runners to daytrip to the Island. The 12.30p.m. ferry from Ardrossan (11.15a.m. train from Glasgow Central) connects with the bus to Lamlash (10 minutes). Travellers should check both the Calmac website and Stagecoach buses for details of any Covid 19 travel restrictions, especially on capacity.
Please note the minimum age is 16.
