THE MUST DO EARLY SEASON CYCLOSPORTIVE EVENT

ABOUT THE EVENT

The Burgess Hill Springtime Classic is the one of the most popular cyclosportives in the Southeast.  Don't miss out on this great cycling challenge which has been successfully run now to great applause for over 14 years.  This really is an event not to miss, and an excellent event to test your early season fitness with notable iconic hills of the area on all the 3 routes.  All courses travel over the wonderful country side of Ashdown Forest with the longerst route travelling into Kent and Surrey.

An extremely popular event it is advisable to enter early to avoid missing out.

The Routes are:-

THE CLASSIC Route at 71 miles

The Classic is the hardest and longest of the three rides on the Burgess Hill Springtime Classic Cyclosportive. An excellent event to prepare for the cycling season ahead. The course is hard for this time of the year and should only be attempted by experienced cyclists able to ride for four or more hours over hilly terrain.

With a distance of 71 miles (114km) and 1653 metres of climbing the route will test riders climbing ability and endurance. There are four feed stations on this ride to help riders around the course which has many hills like Pillow Mounds Hill, Kidds Hill,Groombridge hill and the infamous 20% Cobb Lane hill. Riders will also have the chance to relish the many descents this testing course offers.

THE CHALLENGE Route at 53 miles

The Spring Challenge ride follows the route of the Springtime Classic Cyclosportive but takes a detour to avoid the hardest of the hills of our Classic route. This detour reduces the distance of the Springtime Challenge ride to 53 miles (85.8km). A sporting course with 1193 meters of climbing  that will challenge your fitness and determination.

It's a good event to do to get into condition for future summer cyclosportives. This route is achievable for most club standard cyclists, but needs work as it passes through some tough terrain and some tough climbs such as Pillow Mounds Hill and Kidds Hill which is know locally amongst the cycling fraternity as "The Wall". Then there is  infamous short but steep Cobb Lane Hill on the Challenge Route as well. With the scenic rolling roads of Ashdown Forest we feel sure you'll enjoy this ride.

THE TOUR Route at 35 miles

The Tour route ride is the shortest ride of the Springtime Classic at 35 miles. although short in miles, this is still a good test for beginners and those who are coming back to full fitness.

The Tour route avoids the major climbs of the two other longer routes. It has less of the strength sapping pain inducing gradients abundant on the longer routes, but this is not to say that the Tour ride hasn't got a few hills to test your ability. The route has three main climbs to test the rider climbing ability they are :-

  1. Pillow Mounds Hill
  2. Cob Lane Hill (walking is not an option your a cyclist :-) )
  3. Ardingly Reservoir Hill

All riders will receive maps and route details at the start and all routes will be heavily marked with directional arrows so you don't have to use those maps.
