Arranmore is a special place. An historical fishing island that has a past and a community you can only really understand by visiting and soaking up the atmosphere. This unique and spectacular island run will be fun as well as challenging. There will be long climbs and long downhills on both road and trail with around 25% of the 35km course involving off road running. The event looks to be boosted in numbers with the inclusion of a 10km route, for those not in marathon or long-distance training. This 10k route won’t be one for the PB but it will be beautiful and there will be some fun off road sections to add to the technicality.
The 35km route will involve an entire loop of the island followed by a traverse of the island from the East to the West, taking in some of the most amazing views in Ireland along the way. Trail runners, or at least grippy road runners are a must with the chance of a wet course always in the balance.
Hopefully the event will encourage people to arrive on the Friday night and make a weekend of it, but Saturday post-race will see the real party start. A post-race party in Early’s bar will be arrange following snacks, soups and goodies at the race finish. One thing this island can do is have fun. Both charities involved are close to the communities hearts.
