DROP BAG SIZE
Every year we see huge drop bags with masses of food and drink etc left untouched after the event. We suggest you think about what you may need. You probably don't need enough to feed a small island in each drop bag: be sensible!
We have space for any items which may have been brought with you, i.e. warm wear, change of clothes etc (no valuables, car keys/wallets though please). Please place all these in a labelled bag and these will be taken to the race finish at Helmsley. Please also note that that sticking a sticker to the outside of a drop bag usually results in the sticker falling off. Tape the sticker on, or mark the bag with a pen, these bags will be transported in the back of a transit van with dozens of other drop bags finish bags and supplies over miles of roads, so please use common senseIf you are an unsupported runner, and time out or decide to end your race through injury etc, you must contact your nearest checkpoint asap (if you are at the back, you will be picked up by the Sweeper). You will then either be picked up from the checkpoint, or taken from the checkpoint when the checkpoint closes to the finish, or the next main checkpoint where you will then be taken to the finish. At remote checkpoints, such as Bloworth Crossing and Roseberry Topping with no vehicular access, you are expected to continue on to the nearest checkpoint i.e. last CP or next, with the sweeper, unless you are injured and cannot continue. Be prepared that you may have a long wait before you can be returned back to Filey.
COACH = £20 For those that book the coach from Helmsley - Filey on Saturday 29th May. The coach will leave at 0600. So you need to be out waiting for it at 0550 as 0600 will be the time it will leave. Any later and you will miss it, if you miss it we cant pick you up.
It will leave from Helmsley Market Square, arriving at Filey by 0700-0715.

MARSHALLS & SWEEPERS
Marshalls and sweepers have given up their time to help out at this event, some marshalls/sweepers their full weekend. Marshalling/Sweeping is a long tiring job and marshalling an ultra event is, well, ultra long and tiring but in its way very rewarding helping you guys achieve your goals. So if you are feeling a bit grumpy, hide it, be pleasant and thank the marshalls. Yes you are still capable of this after 100 miles! Any bad treatment, abusive language etc given to a Marshall will result in that competitor being disqualified from the race.
Along the 110 course you may pass or even be passed by Hardmoors 160 competitors, when they get to Scalby and join the 110 course they will have run close to 50 miles and missed one night's sleep already so be supportive to them and give them a few words of encouragement like " only another 100 miles to go" or "I'm glad I'm only missing one night's sleep" etc. No, seriously, a couple of words such as "well done" will go a long way for them. Their race number will have obviously 160 on it plus different colouring to your own. Oh yeah they may look a bit more tired than you do too!
A map must be carried throughout the race even if you have a GPS. Navigation isn't a major factor on the Hardmoors compared to an OMM or a LAMM but there are one or two areas that can be slightly confusing so please take note.
These can be found on this website, but we need to bring to your attention the following:
As ultra runners the majority of us have a great deal of respect for our surroundings. So please live up to our values and do not drop litter and please be quiet while passing through communities at night.
Stick to the race route
As well as the declared checkpoints there will also be several undisclosed checkpoints, if you stick to the route and DO NOT TAKE SHORTCUTS you will stumble across these CPs. If you miss any of these checkpoints then you will be disqualified
You must stick to the seafront through Scarborough
Shut all gates
When you pass through a gate YOU MUST CLOSE IT!!
Support Runners are allowed from Runswick Bay (It is optional to have a support runner not mandatory). Support runners must not carry any of your gear.
What ever the Marshall/Race control say is final! If at a checkpoint a Marshall or Race Control informs you that you should not continue for whatever reason, THEN YOU DO NOT CONTINUE!! If you arrive at a checkpoint after the checkpoint has closed, then you have timed out and your race is over!
In event of the tide being in at Runswick Bay, you MUST wait with (or near to) the checkpoint marshall, until he allows you to proceed. The marshall's word is final, if you continue without the marshall's say, you will be disqualified. The time you have waited for the tide to go out and the path safe to cross, will be recorded and subtracted from your finish time.
Various Checkpoints along the Hardmoors 110 route will provide basic food (those checkpoints are listed above) Checkpoint food will be flapjacks and jelly babies etc to complement your own stores. Supported runners are expected to be catered for by their support crews. Unsupported runners are expected to carry food as well as use their three drop bags for extra supplies of food.
Please remember unsupported runners are those deemed to be fit and able to look after themselves during and after the race.
Karen from Sports Stadium will be providing massages at the race finish for £10 for 15 minutes. Helps you be able to walk the next day.
The finishers presentation will be held at 2000hrs Sunday at the Race Finish. If you are a Class winner etc, and need to leave early we will present you your Trophy/Award early.
