A GREAT WAY TO LEARN SELF-NAVIGATION SKILLS BEFORE TACKLING AN ULTRA OR SOMETHING MORE SERIOUS!

 

CODDIWOMPLE - “(v.) to travel in a purposeful manner towards a vague destination.” 

 

The Womple is a self navigation fell run of approximately 8 miles (depending on your route choice), taking in some of the crown jewels of the South West Coast Path and Jurassic Coastline between West Bay and Charmouth.

The 'checkpoints' on the course will be released to runners 7 days before the race (as OS grid references) in order for them to plot their route, runners will then stamp their cards at these checkpoints and return to the finish within 3 hours. In order to have completed The 'Womple all checkpoints must have been reached AND the runner must have returned within the allotted time!

The Womple is organised by two local club runners for the enjoyment of fellow runners.

HOW TO NAVIGATE - How you choose to navigate between these checkpoints is YOUR choice however you must ADHERE TO PUBLIC RIGHTS OF WAY.

Potential choices could include:

• Ordnance Survey Explorer Map 116 (Lyme Regis & Charmouth)
• Phone App (OS Maps, Outdoor Active, Komoot etc)
• GPX file on your watch

It's down to you! This is your chance to learn both important route planning and subsequent navigation skills in a relatively safe and confined area of countryside, there will be no need to cross ANY roads.
