30 & 19 MILE ANYTIME CHALLENGE EVENT

Welcome to the 2021 edition of the Founders Challenge, like the rest of the world nothing is exactly the same, and life looks a bit different, so will the Founders Challenge for this year, to suit the situation we find ourselves in. Whether you are stay-vacationing this year, down south from the North, or the founders challenge is a event you normally do or its your first time and living locally, the London LDWA group welcomes you to a unique opportunity to walk in the Surrey Hills, following the Founders Challenge route that was introduced in 2019, self supported with no food, water, toilets provided, allowing for maximum safety to all walkers entering this anytime event, between the dates of 3 July and 3 October 2021.
London is offering a double certificate if you have walk the Capital Challenge and the Founder’s challenge in 2021. All communication concerning that, should be directed to chris.founders.challenge@gmail.com as with any matters concerning the founders challenge
Entrants must comply with any local or national COVID rules.
ROUTES: there are two CIRCULAR ROUTES from Guildford or your chosen start point
- The 30 mile (49km) route of 4,100 ft (1,250m) of ascent.
- A shorter route of approx. 19 miles (30km) with 2,150 ft (650m) of ascent.
Please note that there are some steep descents which can be slippery in wet weather.
Participants should download the route descriptions and GPX file from the London Group website www.ldwa.org.uk/London
MAPS
LR 187 & LR 186 (for approx 3 miles of long route not on 187) or Exp 145 & 146.
START / FINISH Select a start location for your walk, be it the official start at Guildford or a point you chosen around the route, complete a whole loop of your chosen route and return back to where you started. People doing the 30 miler you should be started by 08:30, 19 milers can start a bit later. IMPORTANT ENSURE YOU NOTE WHAT TIME YOU STARTED AND ENDED
LEADERBOARD AND CERTIFICATES OF COMPLETION
Entrants who complete the event can edit their entry in SiEntries and input the date completed and time taken. Remember to click NEXT, tick the disclaimers and SAVE ENTRY and then your time and current position will appear on the leaderboard.
Once done, an e-certificate will be e-mailed to you in due course (there is only 1 of me).
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
REFRESHMENTS There is no supplies food or water being offered this year - sorry. See the London website for shop locations (they are small).
RESULTS will be published on the London website at the end of the event period. If you prefer your name to be withheld please tell us.
TRAVEL TO THE START Check the national rail website to ensure trains are running that day and for times, please observe social distance and wear masks where needed.
PARKING
There is a free Park and Ride car park at Artington, The Guildford Station car park costs £4.50 all day on Saturdays..
