Welcolme to the 14th Highland Fling Race.

The 2019 race takes place on Saturday 27th April and is a point-to-point trail ultramarathon along the southern 53 miles (85km) of Scotland’s iconic West Highland Way trail through the Loch Lomond & the Trossachs National Park from Milngavie to Tyndrum.

The event is now 14 years old and has grown in popularity throughout the UK and beyond with approx. 25% of runners travelling from outside Scotland.  The race is limited to 1000 runners. Places will be allocated by BALLOT.

The 14 Day Entry Window will be open from 9pm Sunday 30th September until 9pm Sunday 14th October 2018.  After the window closes, the Fling Team will check that all runners meet the entry criteria following which, the ballot will take place.  All successful runners will then be emailed and asked to confirm and pay for the entry.  We hope to contact all successful entrants within 2 weeks of the Entry Window closing.

ENTRY CRITERIA

From analysis of previous events finish times/DNF's, if your road marathon time is over 5 hours it is almost certain you will not make it through the cut offs. To meet the entry criteria you must have completed ANY of the following events during 2017/2018:

1) Any ultramarathon (road or trail)
2) Any trail/hill/fell marathon
3) Any road marathon in under 5 hours
4) Any ironman distance triathlon

If you haven't already completed such an event then you have until 30th January 2019 to do so.

If you have completed some sort of a long distance off-road event that doesn't quite meet the above entry criteria, you must email team@highlandflingrace.org before submitting your entry. Long fell/hill races and very long distance trail walking events may be accepted at our discretion.

Please note that Half Ironman events are not sufficient and we will not accept training run GPS data such as Strava/Garmin/Suunto logs.

EVENT CHARITY PARTNER

The Highland Fling has teamed up with The Mountains and The People, the flagship project of the conservation charity Outdoor Access Trust for Scotland to enhance and protect the wild and special qualities of the mountains and paths within Scotland’s National Parks. The work will protect and repair the very paths that many of us utilise for training and racing.

We would be most grateful if all runners could, if you can, give a donation to the charity when you enter the event.  Many thanks.
