This year's British Athletics Fell & Hill Running Championships will be hosted by Ambleside AC. The event will take place in the beautiful & iconic Lakeland fells above Grasmere and promises to be one of the most spectacular and challenging events in recent years with 250 Teams competing. Please note these mountains offer a true test of fell running capability, this is definitely NOT a Trail-race.

Registration & car-parking will take place in the Grasmere Showfield close to the centre of Grasmere where plenty of parking will be available. All Teams will be given 2 FREE car parking spaces (per Team) included in your Entry Fee. Additional parking will be available at the same place (£3 car / minibus and then also £15 per camper-van for each day/night). Camper-vans will be able to stay over-night and the surrounding area of Grasmere and Ambleside also provides a wide range of accommodation options from Camping to Hostels to B&B's and Hotels.

Registration will take place in the Grasmere Showfield buildings on Friday 19th (6.00 - 9.00pm) and Saturday 20th (8.00 - 10.00am) October 2018 where numbers & dibbers will be distributed.

The Race Event field is approx 1km away heading North on the A591 on the right just before the Travellers Rest pub. All Legs will start and finish at the same point in the Event field, where full race facilities will be provided (Race Control, event marquee, catering, toilets, first aid etc). NO car-parking will be available for competitors at this location so please bear in mind it is a 15-minute walk from parking to the Event field.

Leg 1 will be a solo leg of 8km taking in a breath-taking descent off Seat Sandal with a total ascent of 760m. Leg 2 is a pairs’ leg of 12km with 720m of ascent over the very challenging terrain of Fairfield and Cofa Pike. Leg 3 is the pairs’ navigation leg and will provide all that is expected from a competition championship nav leg (competent navigational experience and skills will be required). Finally Leg 4 is a solo leg of 7km with 610m ascent past Alcock Tarn before a rough steep ascent & traverse across to Stone Arthur.

Legs 1 and 2 will mostly be on obvious paths and twill be partially flagged  - full details on all Legs are on the Event website. Leg 4 will be fully flagged and suitable for Over 16s. We will be asking Team Captains to confirm that all team members have the required knowledge, fitness and experience to cope with an A category fell / hill race as all Legs are on challenging terrain.

All Clubs that enter before the Entry deadline will be guranteed at least one Team place, and in all liklihood there will be several Teams available for most Clubs. There is a limit on Entries of 250 teams.

DETAILS ON HOW TO ENTER

The Championship categories for which British Athletics medals are awarded will be given are as follows:

Open men, Open women, Vet 40 men and Vet 40 women.

In addition to these four categories we will also be taking entries and awarding prizes for three other categories:

Vet 50 men, Vet 50 women and Mixed Teams (3 men / 3 women)

Finally we are also taking entries for Open Teams (any combination of runners) but no prizes will be awarded in this category.

Please note V50 runners can run for a V40 team but obviously not the other way round! An 'Open mens' or 'Open womens' team can comprise of runners of any age. An 'Open' team can consist of any runners of any sex or any age (Over 18 on Legs 1,2 and 3, Over 16 on Leg 4).

Initially Clubs can enter a maximum of ONE team in each / any of the above 8 Team Categories (so 8 teams in total) and payment for each of these teams will be taken immediately.

If we receive more than 250 entries then Clubs with a large number of entries (eg more than 5 teams) will be asked to reduce the number of teams they have entered and refunds will be given. Preference on entries will be given to Clubs who have supported the BA Relay Champs in the past, and to those who enter first.....so the sooner you enter the better the chance of getting additional teams.

All Clubs are guaranteed at least one Team even if they only enter on deadline day of Friday 21st September 2018.

You will be asked to enter individual leg runners but this does not have to be done immediately, you can add the runners at any stage. However all leg runners have to be declared by 8pm on Thursday 18th October 2018.

1st - 21st September 2018 = £130.00

All Teams entered will receive 2 free car-parking passes.

RACE RULES

This years Fell & Hill Running Championships are organised by Ambleside AC and as such there will be restrictions on the use of GPS devices as navigation aids. Clubs should note that with the obvious exception of the 'navigation leg' other legs do not require navigation but 'mountain skills' are always required on Lakeland fells.
